What Makes a Place Truly "Good for Kids"? A Guide for Reviewers

As contributors to Google Maps, we have the power to make everyday life much easier for millions of people. One of the groups that rely heavily on our detailed reviews are parents and families looking for safe, stress-free outings.

Ticking the “Good for kids” attribute on a business profile is a fantastic start, but adding specific, descriptive details in our written reviews is what really makes a massive difference.

Next time you are out exploring or reviewing a venue, here is a quick guide on what to look for and how to write a highly helpful review for families!

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: What to Check (On-the-ground Checklist)

Keep an eye out for these essential features when you visit a café, restaurant, park, or museum:

  • Seating & Dining: Are there high chairs or booster seats? Do they have a dedicated, healthy kids’ menu or provide kid-proof cups?

  • Restroom Facilities: This is a big one! Check for clean, sturdy changing tables. Are they available in both men’s and women’s restrooms, or is there a dedicated family restroom?

  • Accessibility: Can a parent easily navigate a stroller through the space? Look for ramps, wide aisles, and elevators.

  • Safety: Is the environment well-contained? For outdoor spots, note if play areas are fenced off and safely distanced from busy roads or parking lots.

  • Entertainment: Do they provide crayons, activity sheets, or a small play zone to keep younger guests occupied?

:writing_hand: What to Write in the Review Box

When you write your review, try to make the family-friendly features easily searchable:

  • Use Keywords: Explicitly use terms like “kid-friendly,” “family-friendly,” or “stroller accessible” so your review surfaces when parents search for those exact phrases.

  • Detail the “Why”: Instead of just saying “Great for kids,” explain why. (e.g., “The staff immediately brought a high chair and crayons,” or “The outdoor patio is completely fenced in, making it safe for toddlers to walk around.”)

  • Age Appropriateness: Mention if the venue is better suited for toddlers, older kids, or teens. A spot with a massive adventure playground is great for active kids but might not be suited for infants.

  • Put it at the Top: The first 2-3 lines of a review are the most visible before it gets truncated. If a place is exceptionally great for families, mention it right at the beginning!

By paying attention to these small details, we can turn a stressful family outing into a breeze.

Wah ilmu baru lagi ini @Manishhh , terima kasih Bapak :folded_hands:t2:

I love the way you give us the tips, @Manishhh. Thanks for this great post!

Thank you @Manishhh for sharing these specific details which makes a huge difference for families.

I often view kid-friendliness :child:t3: as a direct extension of accessibility, looking at a space from a child’s height and perspective rather than just an adult’s.

In my reviews :writing_hand:t3:, I always pay attention to whether everyday facilities like handwash areas are actually reachable, such as having lowered washing area so kids can wash up independently. Just as importantly, I look at the immediate environment to see if heavy, fragile :chair: or hazardous items :warning: are kept safely out of reach, rather than placed on low tables where curious hands could easily pull them down and cause harm.

Another crucial detail is having gender-neutral :restroom: or family restrooms. When a father visits alone with his young daughter or a mother with her son, navigating gender-segregated restrooms can be really uncomfortable. Having an inclusive family facility completely solves this issue for solo parents.

When a place is both practically accessible and child-proofed, it allows parents to genuinely relax.

Excellently conceived and drafted post, dear @Manishhh
All the points discussed are very relevant and are practical too.
Very useful tips - thanks for sharing these…

A humble suggestion:
Some kids friendly centers (Ex: certain restaurants, paediatric clinics, etc) provide ‘Cartoon TVs’ which are very helpful.

You may add it in your main post?

Once again thank you very much.
Most sincerely

Thank you @Manishhh for your great info :+1:

An essential read for every thoughtful reviewer! :bullseye: Moving beyond a simple “Yes/No” to highlight actual ground truths - like diaper-changing facilities, stroller accessibility, and play area safety - makes Google Maps truly reliable for families.

Outstanding guide - thanks for sharing @Manishhh ! :baby:

@Manishhh thanks for sharing with us. keep up

I have been seeing this attribute at many businesses I explored and also wrote a review for: Kid Friendliness.

But I never knew about even one criterion that would qualify a place as kid-friendly, @Manishhh

Now I know so much more. Thanks a bunch for a wonderful post :+1:

@Manishhh . Perhaps you can add two more criteria: Kid friendly menu or Kids menu and Kids friendly place

Great initiative @Manishhh . Your information really help us to make Maps even more better

:folded_hands:
