You know what’s the worst thing to a Google fan? Live in China! You cannot use Google services, cannot buy google products, and there is even no Google Services Framework on the phones made in China. Fortunately, I have gotten a chance to work overseas after graduation.
On the first day I came to Algeria, I have been to a beach whose name is Plage des Pins with my colleagues. We have had good times there and I have taken an interesting photo of my friend.
The background is a hotel. I have found the hotel on google maps and then I’ve uploaded the photo to the site. That’s the beginning of my career as a local guide.
The informatization level of Algeria is not very good and there are a lot of business that doesn’t appear on Google Maps yet. So, I have firstly added small business in my community during the 8 months I was in Algeria: the food stores, the print shops, the barbershops, the supermarkets… I have made a list of these shops on Google Maps and shared this to my colleagues. This helps them a lot. For example, my colleague has found a Chinese restaurant successfully by the address I’ve amended on Google Maps.
Besides these shops for a convenient life, I’ve made the list of the business who has a contact with our enterprise, the scenic spots that I have been to, the different sites of our client, and of course the restaurants worth a try!
Once my contribution to the google maps has been very helpful, Google Maps will give me a notification. That’s my happiest moment. That inspires me to keep on adding business, amending address, uploading photos and answering questions. I enjoy helping others via Google Maps, so I have become a local guide within 6 months.
That’s what makes a Chinese local guide in Algeria: the happiness of sharing.
