What locations should I record and upload videos to MAPS

Hello again.

I noticed that uploading a video is considered more useful than a photo (judging by the value awarded). All this time I had tons of thoughts for recording one and the same number of doubts.

{For example:
1) me: supermarket having a seasonal event!
doubt: It’s one-time, I might accidentally record people who dislike and break their privacy, I would have to report and remove it later, etc.
2) me: wow this is a nice garden!
doubt: cameras are allowed but, is it okay for recording? Will I disturb others’ views? etc.
}

Can other guides give some advice to me, what kind of locations, are best for uploading a video? (or am I just being overly concerned?)

[UPDATE: This thread received some valuable comments so I request you to read them as well.]

Hi, @TharinduDM

If you want to learn more about what video to upload on Maps, you could read that here: Tips for Making Great Videos

But if your question is which location that could give you a lot video views? I’m affraid I don’t have the answer. We upload videos on Maps to improve Google Maps (Add, Remove, or Share Photos and Videos

But, imho, it’s nothing wrong to upload videos to get points/views as long it was not violate Google’s rules, for example uploading restricted content (Prohibited and Restricted Content )

Thank you for sharing the link. I wanted that one. I don’t care that much about the number as long as people received some help from it. Whether it’s 100 or 100K views, being informative and updated is my priority.

I hope other local guides had/having the same trouble as me, this thread will be a help.

Hi @TharinduDM

I noticed quite a lot Local Guides are adding videos just to gain the video badge. I think we should add videos only when something is moving or the sounds are important. Adding a video when a still photos can convey the same information should be avoided.

This is my personal opinion and not something mentioned in the guidelines.

All the best

When photos/cameras are prohibited then please don’t take videos and photos.

We should always avoid having recognizable faces in both videos and still photos.

That’s another big point I wanted to know/discuss here. The importance, priority and some other general information of video should be considered. I agree with your comments here.

Hallo ich bin relativ neu hier,

vielen Dank für die hilfreichen Links zu dem Thema Videos und ihren Inhalten.

Hi @TharinduDM , the question is interesting, and I think we should go a bit in depth.

Adding a video is not, as @MortenCopenhagen clearly explained, a way to simply gain a few more points, and should be done only if really a video is giving some more information compared with a photo. Most of the videos that I actually see in maps are in fact useless, and it is my duty to report all of them, like I do for redundant and duplicate photos.

Privacy is indeed another important concern, and should be considered all the time. In Europe, just to give you an example, there is a specific law about what you can publicly post in a video, and you can be fined if what you do is against the rules.

The reason why a video receive more points (7) compared with a photo (5) is because it takes more effort, but the video should me meaningful.

Feel free to share an example to us for a better feedback
