What Local Guides Program means to me: The world on a Picture

As a social person, finding different places or events that is known for social gatherings has always been a huge part of my to do list. These events majorly encompasses food, drinks, sports and travel as it makes for a huge part of my likes. Being a local guide has enabled me to explore the world in one picture.

Most of the time I am drawn to articles with images as it tells a story in a more descriptive way and paints a more vivid image of the location. As a travel enthusiast, I have been able to physically explore just a quarter of my country due to budget constraints. However, being in local guides program has enabled me to explore much more than I ever expected to. Learning about other countries through my fellow local guides is like being teleported straight into their countries, right to their favorite spots without being a stranger to the location or getting lost. Although not physically, just how amazing is that? Experiencing their cuisines, nature and so much more on a single picture.

This feeling of being taken around other local guides countries has always pushed me to share various places I have been able to visit. This means my fellow guides are also in a position to experience my world and enjoy it just as much as I enjoy theirs. Writing detailed reviews, attaching pictures, adding new businesses and approved places has always been so satisfying to me, but it does not top the feeling I get when I see how many views my images and reviews have attained; especially the images that get to be featured and the amount of views sky rockets. This always reassures me that what I am doing is helping other people whom we’ve never met and for sure, it’s quite a happy feeling.

Living in a digital world has made the world a global village, but being in the same village with people you share similar interests with yet so different is more mind blowing. Local guides program is my little village where I have been able to know and learn more from my fellow villagers. A man is a social being and making friends on local guides connect has been a bigger part of the adventurous journey. Being in the same platform with fellow local guides has made it easy to explore the world together and embrace each other through every single step.

As a big time foodie, being a local guide has enabled me to share different cuisines from my country and my culture on local stories. Also as a country that prides itself in its partying culture, showing off various nice places to blow some steam off has always been on my menu. More interesting, I have been able to meet local guides from my country through the previous food crawl I hosted. Finding out the cuisines that other countries has to offer from local Guides has prompted me to create a bucket list of different dishes I would like to try if someday I am able to travel to those countries.

Being among the top 1% local guides in my city Nairobi, Kenya gave me a chance to be featured in discussion panel during the Google for Kenya 2019 event. This really encouraged me to keep doing what I do as it revealed to me the impact I can create in other people’s lives as I share my world on a picture.
