What Local Guides program means to me: make a difference

Hi there,

My name is Irina. I’m a Google local guide level 7 from Winnipeg in Canada.

When I first started posting reviews for google’s local guide program, I would post a review whenever I had a negative experiences with a local company. I liked that there was a way to let businesses know when they fell short of my expectations, and to warn other consumers.

One day I needed some assistance at a big chain store. One of the employees went above and beyond, exceeding my expectations. I decided to post this positive experience on Google.

A few months after posting that review I was back shopping at that same store. That same employee remembered me and asked if I had posted a review on Google from my last visit there. When I said I did, he let me know that his manager had seen the review. He said that his manager had read the review out loud at a company meeting, and that he had received a bonus and promotion. He was very grateful that I took the time to post positive comments.

Until that moment, I didn’t know how much of an impact my reviews can have, not only for consumers, but also for employees of the businesses

As is true with so many people, it’s easy for me to focus on the negatives. But being part of the local guide program has shown me how powerful gratitude can be, and has given me a way to express my gratitude in a meaningful way.

I can make a difference. Thanks to Google!
