What Local Guides program means to me : Confidence-boost, unique true thoughts, and a journey.

My name is Nikolas, and I’m a Local Guide from Salatiga, Indonesia.

I’m an introvert, and to top it all off, someone with inferiority complex. This is truly amazing combination if I might say so myself.

Now, being a Local Guide, is something I come across by chance. Through my involvement with Local Guides Program, I can share my thoughts to people- strangers so to speak. Well, speaking to stranger - by itself - is sometimes a very challenging thing to do for me. But through the Local Guide Program, I managed to slowly overcome my anxiety of interacting with people, a fact that I’m quite grateful for.

The realizations that I can help some stranger out there (and especially those who come to my city) finding the best places because of my reviews and experiences that I share made me feel accomplished and the fact that I am being appreciated and helpful to others. Giving me confidence to go out there and go to places I never went to and explore. Sharing my thoughts about the thing I experience and at the same time, a journey to unknown place and finding new things and connecting with new people.

The monthly and yearly email updates also help me to keep track of my contribution to society, a drive to let me know how many people I’ve help and a self-reminder that what I did is worth something.

I will keep writing about my true thoughts and reviews in the Local Guide Program to contribute to the community. Not to forget, I would also like for others to know and realize what it’s feels like being in Salatiga and the value of the city (as I’m a local) from the viewpoint of a local such as myself.

Best regards,

Nikolas
