The Local Guides program for me started out as something natural. As I explored the Google Maps application, I realized I could make my contribution and help people discover the places I visit regularly. My goal has always been to show the places that are part of my everyday life and that are less well-known. But there are several reasons why this program is successful not only for me, but also for thousands of people around the world.
First of all Local Guides is important because people want to give something to the community. That contribution comes with this program, which reaches both the cities and the villages. This contribution can be essential for someone who explores these places for the first time. In 2019 I did an internship in Bonn (Germany), a city that I didn’t know at all. The information I got through Google Maps and the contributions made by Local Guides was important to guide me and know what was around me. The adaptation became easier and I was able to enjoy my internship experience.
Secondly, Local Guides serves to help small businesses. It is not the great monuments or tourist attractions that attract thousands of people that make Local Guides a relevant program. But what interests people are the less known places and that have a lot to give. That’s why I think it’s more interesting to make known the small business that gives life to many places.
Thirdly and lastly, Local Guides is a way for me to have fun. What I find most interesting in this program is the easy way to make our contribution. Whether in my daily life or in a longer trip, we can make contributions very easily, sharing our experience online through the places we pass. We can also get feedback from people and see if our contributions are helping, promoting a permanent dialogue. We help the community and the community helps us too.
In conclusion, Local Guides allows us to give an opinion about the places we visit. What makes it relevant is that there are thousands of contributions, making the process democratic and transparent. My goal is to contribute more and more and to help people get oriented and facilitate their daily lives.
