Hello dear friends!
Today I wanted to take a moment of meditation and writing to explain what the Local Guides program means in my life.
Just like most of you, the Local Guides program for me is a door of our countries to the world, where each of us represents the role of tourist ambassadors, showing the best, in every aspect, that our land can offer to its own citizens and people from all over the world. That in me is already wired, and part of my new DNA.
However, if I have to summarize the program into emotions I want to mention three components that are essential in my life: Friendship, personal growth, and awareness.
Personal Growth
Many of you know me at least a little bit, not only for my participation in Connect but also for my presence in social networks. When I applied to Connect Live 2019 last year I was taking my first steps as a Local Guide, there was a lot to discover and learn and father time has been wise.
Last year was intense and exciting in many aspects and emotions have been diverse. As a Local Guide, I humbly decided to learn from scratch. For this, I began to participate actively in social networks such as Twitter, and Instagram.
On Instagram, I still have a long way to go, but I have learned to create Stories! I learned to use the effects! I also learned to share links with other networks like Twitter! It has been an amazing ride, my friends!
On Google Maps it has been pretty similar. I started my journey posting short and not so meaningful reviews but things changed slightly this past year. Now I pay more attention to provide helpful reviews that hopefully will provide guidance and better decision making.
So far I mentioned hard skills, and techniques but in this process, I have also learned a few soft skills that are now helping me in multiple facets of my daily activities. To write posts I have learned to be patient, to understand the process. This patience has helped to write meaning posts related to Peruvian Art, Culture, and touristic places. Here a couple of examples: Galería Fugaz El Pueblito de Antioquia Wonders of Cusco, the charming city Vol.1 Ollantaytambo
Friendship
How fun it is to do things when you feel that you belong to a group and that it also cares about you. In this year of learning, I have made many friends, Peruvians, and foreigners. In the case of Peru, my closest friends are Cesar Pariona @AlukardGT and Italo Quispe, both Google Product Experts, Cesar, photographer, and Italo, Crowdsource’s main promoter in Peru. With both of them, I have developed a very nice relationship in which we learn things from each other every day and with whom I have been able to organize meetups in Lima in recent months. I have also made online friends such as @AlejandraMaria
Awareness
Thanks to the Local Guide program I have learned that we live in an immense and partially unknown world, with many things in common but also many differences. I have also realized how important it is to raise awareness, and that we as Local Guides have a very important mission of contributing to our respective communities with respect to the environment, social responsibility, and accessibility. For me, as an adult and a parent, is difficult to imagine the difficulties faced by people with physical or mental challenges, or who have relatives to whom they have to help. Thanks to Local Guides like @Jesi and @EmekaUlor I understood that we can help, through good reviews, creating Lists of accessible places to visit, and engaging in local events. As a contributor to Connect, I have written several posts that I wish will help in one way or another. Accessible Estaciones Tren Eléctrico Lima
As always, it is a pleasure to write in Connect, to this amazing community of all-stars
.
Your friend,
Marco … from Perú!
