When I started my participation in Local Guides program, I didn’t know how it will affect my life. My first steps was to review places I had visited around the world. Later on, while exploring the maps, I realized that my own city was a big mystery for me, as a tourist. I love traveling and till that point I believed I could find new excitements only in foreign countries. It was a revelation to me when I started visiting new places in my own city, just half an hour from my home.
Greece has a glorious past and Athens was the cradle of western civilization, that’s why it is one of the top tourist destinations worldwide. Besides the most known archaeological sites, such as Acropolis, there are many others least known, even for us Greeks. So you can understand my excitement when new places started to unfold their beauties to me. One of them is the unique Epigraphic Museum, the one and only in the whole world. One of its exhibits is the goblet of Pericles, the great politician who promoted arts and literature in ancient times and was the inspirer of the most famous buildings on Acropolis.
I enjoy being a Local Guide as I can help other people to fall in love with their own city. Unfortunately everyday life rhythms force us all to spend less time discovering new places. As a Local Guide I am given the chance to reveal new sites and share them through my reviews and photos. I believe that through my experiences I give motivation to others for exploration. My strong opinion is that reviews are valuable because they describe a real visit and its impact and are rarely based on manipulation. I review every place that deserves a visit and believe me, they are countless.
Modern cities can be chaotic for everyone. Local Guides program offers an opportunity to convert chaos to enjoyment and this is another lovely aspect of it. Very often I mark interesting places and I create cultural walks with many advantages, not only spiritual but fitness also. I exercise both mind and body by exploring new “secret” places. Believe me when I tell you that it has become a new delight for me, while nourishing my mind and soul by learning the history of my city with a fascinating way.
