Moving to a new country with no friends and family, as you know, could be tricky. no one to tell you how or where to go about your daily activities like grocery shopping, clinic/hospital visits or a simple coffee shop outing. All this I was able to do within 2 months of moving to a new town by being part of the Local guide program.
The local guide program has created a sense of belonging, responsibility, friendship, and above all, fun for me.
How this started is quite interesting, I thought it was a great idea to let people know what happens in a particular town, and this was precisely what helped me get familiar with my new town by reading other guides’ reviews and pictures. The first picture I posted about a multipurpose hall in the town got over a thousand views, encouraging me, and I felt like I belonged to this community.
Not long after, I became part of a charity group I got to know about by surfing the net, and I could locate their meeting point using Google Map. I thereafter invited a few friends to a coffee shop posted by a guide with good reviews, and we had an exciting time at the shop.
Right now, I feel a sense of responsibility in enabling people to know their environments better and how to access places of necessity easily. I do this without any form of pressure but with fun and excitement. I look forward to being part of connecting live 2020 to meet other local guides and be able to share ideas, visit new towns and locations, and have more reviews to share.
