What Local Guides means to me? A fun and easy way to do a digital voluntary service

I’ve always loved doing things for other persons. Since I was a teenager I involved myself into different voluntary activities with children, elderly, people with difficulties… N****o reward satisfies you as much as the awareness of having helped someone, giving him a smile or just simplifying his life.

Be a local guide for me is like do a kind of digital voluntary activity: I know that that post, that picture, that number of stars, will help a couple of tourist to organize their trip and will give special tips to a small restaurant to improve itself and learn how to do always better for its customers.

I love be this kind of altruistic web user. I’m a Web Marketing Student and I am aware of the importance of feedbacks and reviews: an economical and reputational importance for local business and a psychological one for web navigators.

In Italy, and in Venice where I live, small local business are still not enough aware of how much their digital reputation is fundamental for their success. Some of them have not a website, not an account of Google My Business, no opening time or pictures that show their activity to potential customers.

I have the possibility to help them only by sharing my experience, in a funny and engaging way, so why not do it?

Now I love to compare myself with my friends, my boyfriend or my family to create the best and most objective reviews on our travel and eating experiences. It’s a fun and easy way to help other web users and a great way to keep the memories of these experiences alive in our mind.

A service like Local Guide it’s the perfect representation of the collaborative nature of internet.

We can help each other and build the world that we’re dreaming of, with no borders or languages limitation, but with a community of person ready to make themselves available to others.
