What local guides mean to me - using my free time to help and inspire people

As I first got a grasp on what Local Guides is really about I remember I got excited. Just the thought to be part of the people editing and adding helpful details on Google Maps seems quite enthusiastic to me. As I always try to look at the big picture I imagine a world full of people who help each other with the most recent and relevant information.

Specifically for me, what Local Guides mean is a way I could help other people in my city by providing them information for different locations. Although there is always the personal experience in a review, I strive to be as objective as possible so that people know what to expect. What I’ve experienced may not be true for someone else. Things change quickly nowadays and everything is so dynamic. Here is one of my reviews of the natural landmark Devetashka Cave which I wrote during one of my trips:

Another way I can see Local guides is as a way to inspire others to try different locations, food places, etc. To discover the city through an unexpected perspective. Sometimes when you live in a certain city for too long you forget to discover it over and over again. You always want to travel, to experience something new but what you miss here is that there is so much fun that might be happening just around the corner.

Taking care of my Local Guides account currently happens in my free time. I’m trying to find a balance between taking care of my family, working from home, and sparing enough time to learn, travel, and my hobbies. I am proud to say Local Guides is one of my hobbies which I enjoy a lot and find rewarding.

And I don’t want to forget one of the things I adore about being a part of the community Google Local Guides - I have the opportunity to share my photos with so many people and make them public on Google Maps. As I love taking photos of places I have been to, this is a good way for me to share my experience through these images. Not to mention that people who have never been to the place would have a good idea of what it’s like. As every picture is unique, each one of them is worth when assessing if a place is a good choice to visit.
