What I liked about Google Maps’s Local Guides Program is that “it’s a collective knowledge base contributed by actual users.” It allows me to contribute wherever I am and… whenever I want… so it doesn’t seem like a task.
It’s open source, it’s free and it’s for a greater good so I feel a sense of achievement and service.
So when, I started… there was no conscious effort from my side to be a local guide. Google used to prompt me to upload photos or ask questions about the place I visited, I simply… truthfully answered them that’s it
If you do anything constructive in a good faith it’s going to help in it’s own way in the progress of the world. Just like a farmer is growing food for himself but actually helping world to feed. So even if visibly we are not aiming to be a world saviour but consistently keep doing constructive contributions in small measures it will show its impact later on.
this is exactly happened with few of my photographs which I contributed to Google Maps.
my initial interest has been to populate visual information of public places. This way we could help Google Maps having updated data and people making an informed decision.
