I’d love to hear which of your contributions makes you happiest. Will you share them? How did you make maps better?
I have two that make me very happy. They’re both restaurants!
- A small but super friendly restaurant in the center of Kyoto had changed the name and owner. They had a very friendly staff and a lot of vegan and vegetarian food. It was delicious and healthy too! They weren’t on maps at all, so I placed them, told them about how it worked, and wrote a nice review. I also posted a lot of pictures.
Today, they have a LOT of reviews and almost 5 stars. I’m so happy this place now has a lot more visitors (it was pretty quiet as they’re just behind the busy streets) and a lot of good reviews. This makes me happy!

- Another amazing restaurant that serves delicious and healthy food, also just off of the main roads in Arnhem, The Netherlands. Such a hidden gem! They are two very friendly people who are working very hard. It has a great atmosphere. The owner is a refuge from Syria and has recreated a cosy place that feels like you’re on a holiday there. All the food is fresh and prepared daily. You feel the love there.
I also put them on the maps (literally) and it helped them a lot. if you get the chance, GO THERE! It’s still very affordable (I don’t know how they do it) and it’s an experience indeed. They also have a lush terrace.
Give them a visit if you can! https://goo.gl/maps/uFf436ReefWgL65x9
Now, I showed you mine…show me yours!

@KingLionheart great contributions indeed! It illustrated that a motivated local guide can definitely make a big difference!
I’m still proud of having spotted a network of fake locksmiths in my country and single-handedly (well: single-local-guidely
) succeeding in getting them all removed from Maps. You can read the full story here.

Holy Moly, Jan! That’s quite something! I’m difinately going to look into that for my area. Great tip!
What I’m missing in your article is how you checked they’re not real/not there. I’m always afraid to delete start-ups or people just renting the place and preparing. Do you walk by all of them? Or just check if they have online credentials? A new business might not have a website yet…for instance.

Indeed @KingLionheart you should always be careful to make sure 100% about the edits you suggest, especially if it is to remove places.
In this case, it was really a combination of personal knowledge from the area I live with pattern recognition. You can read the full story here .
Interesting question @KingLionheart and we all make contributions in different ways. There are several contributions that I have made that I particularly like. One is Custodian Kitchen, at the time a new café in Moorabbin, Melbourne and I think my review (one of my first as a Local Guide) and photos helped give this very new young business a kick start.
Second, was to add a small hospital on the Map which I felt would help many, particularly tourists visiting Nanortalik in Greenland (especially going to the trouble of finding and adding the telephone number and other useful details). One of the very first things I do when visiting a remote location like this, is to find out the contact details and where the nearest hospital, doctor or emergency evacuation service is located. You just never know do you!
Another was not such a favorable review given to a Tea House in Papeete, French Polynesia. This was more of a warning to tourists that this place seemed to have two prices, one for locals and one for tourists. The price we we were charged for an OJ on a stinking hot day was $11USD and the OJ was mostly ice cubes. The other thing that was a con I thought, was the place advertised free WiFi, which in such distant places is always a drawcard for tourists, however, there was no WiFi!
However, more recently, as we have been unable to travel throughout the main COVID pandemic period, I spent some time “cleaning the Map” and as a quantitative measure of this, I have racked up over 50,000 points which equates to achieving Level 9 Local Guide status just on this one activity!
By the way I think your post is better placed and would attract more interest in the Local Stories topic of Connect rather than here in Achievements

Hey Adam, those are indeed very valuable! Especially to tourists, I think these kinds of reviews or contributions make maps such a great resource.
Oh and I love reviews like that that save me disappointment or money. It also teaches business owners something.
Keep it up!
Hi @TsekoV that’s good to know, thanks a lot!
I’m sorry for the wrong tag.
