What is your aproach?

As Local Guides, we all approach Google Maps in a different way.

Some of us sporadically contribute when inspired by a unique or memorable experience.

Others of us approach the process in a very systematic, regimented and structured way, with the ultimate goal of reaching Level 10.

  1. What is your approach?
  2. Has it always been this way?
  3. What is your goal when contributing?

Hello,

Google Maps is a very interesting app and I do like the programs they have designed for end users. I tried to provide other users with the very accurate and realistic reviews, and pictures of the inside and outside of businesses. Why? Because I like the same, I like to use the reviews of Google Maps as a way to see how the place looks like, what to expect and even it is currently crowded. Also, by answering questions I realized that it helps a lot the people that need special accessibility, people to figure out payment methods available and other features listed for a business. I will keep contributing, sorry for not replying in order, I just felt like typing. What about you buddy?

Hugs,

Hector

@FranklinBurrus ,

It depends. Sometimes, I do not wish to spoil a social moment by contributing at the spot and will try to leave a star at the place, so I can go back to it later.
Most of the time, I go with the flow. No pressure, as I am not in a hurry.

Yet, when I dedicate an hour to walk around an area and focus on Mapping, I don’t feel I have particularly efficient (yet). Standing there on the street and fiddling with my phone, seems to take forever, hahaha.

My goal is quality. So, I am happy to hear tips to get a better (quality) work-flow going.

Thanks Franklin for starting your discussion.

Here are my answers for each. I’m chugging down points with plenty of edits each day, while also focusing on quality as well.

  1. What is your approach? Generally speaking, what I tend to find is that the map marker often is incorrect. For some listings it might be positioned on the back alleyway, or it might be actually on the street instead of the building outline. This is even more rampant in shopping centres especially without an indoor map. Even with indoor maps, everything is jumbled up. Provided that the centre has a good enough mobile data connection, I’ll go around and conveniently put everything in it’s rightful place. As for numbers, the questions, websites, etc. I do so mostly at bulk at home. I tend to forget the answers to many questions down the line, so…
  2. Has it always been this way? Most of the time, yes. The majority of my spike in edits are when I’m in shopping centres. Most of them don’t have a standard address and they don’t follow the guidelines, so I do so, much to my dismay of not applieds. Map markers are by far the easiest, and the name changes the most common sense.
  3. What is your goal when contributing? My goal is to have a substantial, clean and orderly map layout. Everything conveniently rowed and located in it’s area, places right where people can find them (this also determines the particular streetview that shows) and also guiding them with the correct information. I’m very fast when it comes to making edits on the fly, so often I only need to stand in front of a store for about 20 seconds before I moved on thanks to my photographic memory.
