The first International Music Day, organised by the International Music Council (IMC*), was held on the 1st of October, 1975, in accordance with the resolution (signed by Yehudi Menuhin and Boris Yarustowski) taken at their 15th General Assembly in Lausanne in 1973.
According to IMC, the intention of this day is to encourage:
- the promotion of our musical art among all sections of society in line with the UNESCO policies.
- To establish peace and friendship between peoples - exchange of experience and the mutual appreciation of their aesthetic values through Music.
And…
What is World Music Day (June 21st):
World Music Day (also known as Fete de la Musique), is celebrated on June 21, every year. One of the important celebrations is to honour musicians and singers; and also encourages the young/amateur artists to take part in cultural activities and stage programmes. Many event managers remember and respect those artists who are no longer performing or who have passed away. In 1982, the French Minister for Culture, Jack Lang initiated this annual event.
