Music: When Words Fail - Music Speaks…

Whether it is ‘International Music Day’ or ‘World Music Day’ - it is important - it is for you… it is for everyone!

There are umpteen interpretations for these days in media; however, here is what you may need to know. There are many who do not know that there are two global event for Music, every year.

International Music Day (October 1st):

The first International Music Day, organised by the International Music Council (IMC*), was held on the 1st of October, 1975, in accordance with the resolution (signed by Yehudi Menuhin and Boris Yarustowski) taken at their 15th General Assembly in Lausanne in 1973.

According to IMC, the intention of this day is to encourage:

  • the promotion of our musical art among all sections of society in line with the UNESCO policies.
  • To establish peace and friendship between peoples - exchange of experience and the mutual appreciation of their aesthetic values through Music.

And…

What is World Music Day (June 21st):

World Music Day (also known as Fete de la Musique), is celebrated on June 21, every year. One of the important celebrations is to honour musicians and singers; and also encourages the young/amateur artists to take part in cultural activities and stage programmes. Many event managers remember and respect those artists who are no longer performing or who have passed away. In 1982, the French Minister for Culture, Jack Lang initiated this annual event.

The theme for World Music Day 2023 is “Music on the Intersections” - this theme is set to create awareness of the power of music that can help people come together. The theme of 2022 was “Music at the Intersections” -

All over the world, several events are conducted on this day and even professionals allow amateurs to join them; also, entry to most of these events will be free.

The main difference:

For “World Music Day” the theme keeps changing every year whereas “International Music Day” has a fixed policy.

Note:

*The International Music Council was created as an associate organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1949.

Which of these two days do you like the most?

Hope this post is informative.

Music has great importance in our culture and so does every musical instrument, I will say this in very few words with a verse.

Thank you mr @TravellerG for tagging me in this great post. How informative! As a music fan I didn’t know before that the two were different. Apart from that, it is also interpreted differently. Apart from the differences, are there any similarities? as in the celebration?

How wonderful! Thank you for this informative post! @TravellerG

Music is a great part of my family life as well.

My daughter had grade 9 ABRSM piano practice and theory certificate. She also plays clarinet and guitar.

My son is a piano and drum player.

If you ever see my car, I have a personalised number plate - something to do with Music;)

Thank you very much, LG friend @Ismi_Choirunnisa for your valuable response.

Surely yes, both the events have many similarities, out of which the most important are:

  • Both events include musical sessions, through out the world - I have read that in 2022, more than 140 countries participated in the World musical day.
  • Both, Professionals and amateurs participate and all are respected equally.

Of course, I can write another post…

Thanks for your valuable companionship.

Greetings from India.
