What is the policy on sharing links related to Google Maps?

Hi,

Recently I shared a news article on Local Guides Connect about 95 million Local Guides existing.

Just today, I was notified that the post was taken down. Reading the guidelines, it does not talk about sharing links to content from the Internet.

Either I should not have quoted the article in the post or I should not have posted the link. Not sure which.

Does anyone know what the official policy is?

Thanks

Hi @JeffMuir sorry to hear about that, I hope someone will answer you. For me I do not share links unless someone was asking a question related to the link which I share to them, my purpose is to reduce conflicts here.

I know you like sharing with others important information as you always do and I support you on that. I will be waiting for the response too.

Thank you.

@JeffMuir There is a guideline about sharing links. As per the original content guidelines on Connect

“Do not pass off someone else’s words as your own.If you are sharing words someone else has written, use quotation marks around the statement and link to the source where you found that information.”

So it is okay to share links when relevant. Regarding your post, I think it is good to tag a moderator to know why your post was taken down.

Hi @JeffMuir ,

Thanks for reaching out!

Please be informed, that if you share something what does not appear to be your own, or does not fit in any categories of Connect, we are moving that post to the off-topic posts Archive. Do note that it will still be visible in the search, but no new comments may be added to it.

You can check out the How do I follow the original content guidelines on Connect? or the 4 helpful tips for using Connect.

I hope you will find this information useful.

@Petra_M

Thanks for the feedback. My interpretation of what you said is that it is not okay to share links unless they directly match a category in Local Guides Connect.

The post appears to be gone since it does not show up in search. I have not used LGC much in the last few years so it is good to know how things work.
