Hi Google Connect members, my name is Nik mohd Fakrul Hisyam, I’m at level 7 local guide.
About 12 years ago, I was assigned to identify the location of the cable and substation routes and to map them. That’s when I was introduced to google earth, and it would be nice to have the data of all 1500 substations and cable lines in the google earth list. but it’s limited to me and requires a lot of storage and database that I have to carry everywhere in the hard drive and had to carry my labtop everywhere because at that time there were no apps on smart phones.
A years later, I know that google maps has improved its system where users can enter their own list of places that don’t exist or provide local reviews, and most of all it can be shared with all google map users. Very smart and very helpful.
Since then, I have continued to use google map as one of my fieldwork, putting together a list of locations for all my team members to reference.I get more excited when the places I create get positive feedback and reviews from users.
My most memorable experience?
I love to travel with ride my superbike, and my motorcycle has been hooked. I asked the locals where the motorcycle repair shop was, but they gave me the wrong direction. I use google map to search for stores and I find it easier to use google map. and I gave reviews of the shop and it helped thousands of others solve their problems when the motorcycle got damaged.
Since then, I have continued to contribute on google maps to help more people. I’ve also put my business location on the map and it has helped over 10 thousand of my customers over the last 5 years.
I was excited when I received an email from google saying I was selected to join Google connect live. I didn’t know this program existed before, and I’m grateful that Google has its own way of rewarding its users. This is what I respect and admire.
My passion being local guide?
Because my passion is helping others to travel and be a good local guide for them, I’m now involving as a travel advisory with my wife, we together guide people, consult them and create a very affordable packages for all traveler.
