The most interesting thing I’ve done as a Local Guide has been the fact of discovering new places, new cities and also new people just by doing photos for Google Maps. I also enjoy the fact of seeing how helpful my photos or reviews are, just by watching the views of my recent contributions or the grateful responses of restaurants or locals.
I specially remember a trip I did with my father last summer. We went to Granada, an incredible spanish city full of beauty and history. I was nearly starting there my journey on the Local Guide adventure. I could not stop taking photos of all the wonderfull things I was seeing (monuments, palaces, landscapes… and also food!).
I have always enjoyed photography, and the Local Guide program allowed me to give me one strong motivation to keep doing photos all over the places I have been visiting since the moment I discover it.
With all these difficult moments that we are living because of the COVID-19 (specially the people that are living in Spain, like me, where the virus is more extended than in other countries) I have realized that one of the things I miss the most is the fact of going somewhere and take some great (and sometimes random) photos to inmortalize the moment, and then sharing them on Google Maps, or just send them to my family or friends to show them the places I have been visiting.
To finish this post, I just want to emphasize the fact of freedom, and the importance of this word on our lives. Freedom, for me, is the capacity to go where we want to go, in the moment that we want, and with the persons that we choose. In these difficult moments that we are living nowadays, some part of that freedom has been taken from us, but we will recover it. And in that moment, talking from my point of view, I’ll be again outside, taking photos of every restaurant I visit or just some quite place I just discovered in the city centre. Because I think that is most interesting thing I’ve done as a Local Guide, just taking photos of any interesting thing or place to share with an incredible big community.
