Recently, I’ve been noticing many
Local Guides using AI-generated photos and also posting content that seems to be completely AI-written.
I’ve gone through the existing Local Guides guidelines about AI-generated content, but i didn’t find any guidelines about it.
So I wanted to ask the Local Guides team and experienced Local Guides in the community:
• Are fully AI-generated images allowed as Google Maps or Local Guides contributions?
• What about AI-generated images that show or represent a real place, but the image was never actually taken there?
• Is it okay to use AI to write a 100% AI-generated review, post, or place description?
• If we use AI only to fix grammar, translate, or polish something we personally wrote, is that considered differently? Must be need this answer, because I do this
• If AI is used, should we disclose or label the content in any way?
I’m not against using AI. I think it can be a really useful tool when used properly. But when it comes to Maps contributions, authenticity and accuracy are important, so I think having clear guidelines would help everyone understand where the line is.
Would really appreciate some clarification from the Local Guides team and insights from experienced Local Guides. What’s your understanding of the current guidelines?
