What is meant by "Google Customer Reviews"?

Today, I received a mail from Google Customer Reviews gcr-noreply@google.com, I which I don’t remember having seen before.

In fact, we did buy at “Dein-Wollshop.de” (note the different punctuation and the missing .de in the mail), I did write a review two days ago and even got a response by the owner.

But what is this mail all about? I just searched my mails and never before got anything from gcr-noreply@google.com. Any ideas?

Google Customer Reviews are fully explained in this Google Shopping help item. It’s a program that allows customers to rate their purchase experience with sellers who participate in Google Shopping

Thanks a lot @AdamGT !

Never heard about it and it seems to be not related to the reviews on Google Maps, if I understood correctly…

That’s right @WilfriedB , it’s not related to Google Maps. My understanding is that in the Google Shopping program, the merchants are online stores across the web.

Interesting and new to me @AdamGT .

If I understand correctly, there is some link between the Google Shopping program and the online shop, where I did indeed order, but I did not notice the term Google Shopping program anywhere on that site.

I need to read a little more …

Google Shopping is a fairly new program @WilfriedB , starting during COVID in 2022 when more and more people were shopping online. It’s like Amazon. Yes there is a link between the Google Shopping program and the online shop. Sellers join the Google Shopping program and advertise their products via a Merchant Center and shoppers search for and purchase products online like you do on for example Amazon and eBay.

That’s exactly right @Annaelisa , there’s usually always someone here that can and is most willing to help even if only directing you to the answer.

@WilfriedB here’s an example of a Google shout out to merchants and directing them to the Merchant Centre.

Thanks @AdamGT !

Interesting: "Once a customer clicks, you can direct them to your online store or a physical location to complete their purchase. " So, it is not limited to online stores and if I understood correctly, unlike Amazon, Google Merchant Center is neither an online store nor a marketplace, but rather directs to the appropriate stores.
