What is going on?!?! 📸

I have posted these pictures to a local Google business profile in upwards of a half dozen times; I’ll check 2-days later and the photos are gone! The cycle starts all over again and I, naturally, feel it imperative that customers who opt to sell their gently used or even new items at Plato’s Closet should be aware of.

I’ve browsed photo submission policies for both LG’s and business owners and the only possible thing that comes to mind is that the pictures were not actually taken inside the store (they were taken from the store parking lot).

Please help…

(Take a look at my Google review of Plato’s Closet) :eyes:

Hi @CatC :

Great point to bring up and it’s great that you want other Maps users to understand your experience. I understand your frustrations. However, note that the pictures should actually be reflective of the business or point of interest itself. You are welcome to describe your experiences in your review of the place instead. Note that photos can be reported for the following reasons:

It seems like that what you have tried to add would not be a photo or video of the place. You can read a bit more about these policies here.

Hi @CatC ,

Since you have provided the amount you received, our system might have automatically made your review private, since it could have been detected as advertising. Google may automatically take down any review that doesn’t follow Google’s review policies.

Thank you very much for replying @LilyanaZ and with that being said, is there anywhere to go from here, seeing as it is not advertising?

@Shirley Thank you and I still feel as if the photos I posted (at least I don’t think so) fell into any of the categories reportable to Google that warrant removal and if that’s the case, it would be false. I could have taken a picture inside the store as they did purchase those items from me and currently have them in their sales rack. If I took a photo of them on the rack with a caption to include how much I sold the clothing items to them for vs. how much they are reselling them to customers for — would I be in the same predicament and if so, why?

@CatC

If I can add my two cents:

The first photo you posted is publicly visible on your profile. BTW, I will check the caption you added on the photo (that may sounds like an advertisement) more than on photo itself

I’m certainly glad you added your two cents @ErmesT , I appreciate it! Just to make sure I understand your thinking correctly — the photos with text embedded directly on the picture, not okay but verbiage in the caption area & not directly on the picture, okay?

I have to say, when I noticed that the photos were disappearing as quickly as I posted them, I revisited photo submission policies for LG’s and embedding text directly on photos is frowned upon & I certainly understand why. It was at that point that I posted the same pics but removed the embedded text. So you think perhaps I won’t continue to encounter this scenario again, hopefully?

@CatC , there are specific rules for embedding text in the photos.

Everything is explained in here: Format Specific Criteria

In your case, I am not talking about “Superimposed text or graphics”

I am focusing on “Text Reviews and Captions”, as your text may appear like a promotional content and, according to the rules: “Don’t include promotional or commercial content.”

That’s why I believe your content may have been removed

Thank you very much @ErmesT as my original interpretation was inaccurate. Does an algorithm determine “text and/or advertising” reviews or must it be reported as some type of content violation to be removed? That also leads me to the question of is this preventable?
