What is 'Access this Business Profile' ?

Last week this started to show up when suggesting an edit to an unclaimed business:

What is it? How should Local Guides interpret or make use of this new feature.

Maybe @MortenSI can provide us with a link to relevant info on this, and explain the implication and relevans for local guides.

Thanks

I tried searching for the same location and didn’t get that particular message. I wonder what that means.

I have also seen this on several POIs, but have also not been able to figure out the exact meaning.

Hello @MortenCopenhagen ,

Thanks for tagging me!

I first tried to recreate this from both Android and iOS with a regular Local Guides account but without any luck. However, when I logged on using a Local Guides account that is already registered as a “business owner” on Google Maps, this same option appeared.

My guess here is that you’ve already claimed a business with your account and therefore appear as a business owner. This seems to be an option to claim the business for Local Guides who are already set up on Google My Business.

In case your profile is not connected with Google My Business, please let me know.

Thanks for the great investigative work, @MortenSI .

Could you please give me a hint on how to check if I’m registered with GMB. I should not be, but maybe I have snooped around checking things out for educational purposes only. When I go there it starts by asking me what business I “own”. I don’t know. None is the correct answer. So it is not straight forward logging in for me.

And how do I get out?

Cheers

Is it correct to assume, that “Access this Business Profile” is somewhat equal to “Claim the business”? But “Claim this Business” is also shown.

Still hoping for your further reply on this. Thanks.

Morten

I am registered as a business owner and I can also see those checkbox messages appearing on some locations.

But I haven’t been able to figure out when it shows up exactly. It doesn’t always show up. If I edit locations thar aren’t claimed yet (=the button to claim is still there) it doesn’t always show up, so it is not directly linked to non claimed locations.

@MortenCopenhagen

You have possibly been testing out the Google My Business app a little? Maybe by doing that, you were registered as a GMB user and owner of a business. Maybe that could explain the assumption of @MortenSI

That makes sense @MortenSI @MortenCopenhagen , I am also registered as business owner, so we’re definitely 1 step closer to unraveling the mystery.

Thanks, @ndsmyter , and @JanVanHaver ,

I’m still not having any luck figuring out how to get rid of my GMB owner’s status. Logging in on desktop and via the Android App always starts by asking me which business I’m want to administer. I can’t get in to see a list of the business(es) Google thinks I own in order to stop being the owner. This is annoying. So I’m really stuck being labeled as a business owner with no businesses.

@MortenSI Please come back and solve this or let us know if this situation just can not be fixed. I searched GMB help pages to no avail. I believe this is a case for Google Maps Moderators since it is not relevant to the GMB support team. Thanks.

Although annoying you may or may not be labeled as a GMB owner, I cannot really see a downside of this. Correct, you see those checkboxes maybe because of this reason, but that doesn’t look like that of an issue.

There are worse things in life :slightly_smiling_face:

Anyway if this can be fixed, that’s even better of course.

Hello @MortenCopenhagen ,

Unfortunately I don’t have a definitive answer as to why this option would appear if you are not registered with a business on Google Maps.

It’s also of my understanding that this feature is similar to “Claim this business” and simply serves as a reminder. If you were a business owner, you should be able to access your business page via the hamburger menu, but if the option is not visible, I doubt you are a registered owner.

In this case I could recommend reaching out on the Google My Business Help Community.

Thanks a million, @MortenSI and @ndsmyter ,

I will check and stay calm.

All the best

Curious :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Did anyone ever figure out the answer to this mystery? I AM a business owner, rather I have claimed a business in the past when I managed a company, but I don’t think this has anything to do with this option.
