- My Story
Before I drive to a place, I always check the parking availability before I start the engine to reduce the expense and emission. I literally rely on other Google Maps users’ reviews to get the information I need. Most parking garages are expensive in Germany and other European countries, especially in downtowns. But most time no one will take pictures of the rate sign or describe some details. Some people just left general reviews like “it’s too expensive“ or “it’s not quite expensive”. What we need is the current rate, not some subjective opinions.
Once I had to catch a musical concert, then I followed the navigation to the parking garage I chose. But actually, it was way too expensive, and I didn’t have time to switch to another one.
Another time I parked in a garage, but the ticket machine suddenly could not accept my credit cards. I had to find an ATM and to get some cash to pay.
- What I always share on Google Maps
Since then I try to collect information about the price from the parking space that I have parked on, then share it on Google Maps. That’s what I do. I think it is useful not only for travelers but also for the locals. People can actually choose by themselves, if its the one or switch to another one.
That information that Google Maps doesn’t have yet. But it may be important: Car Park Rates
- Conclusion and Suggestion
There are a few Apps that can actually check the information about parking. One of those can even check parking capacities and restrictions. I hope that Google can integrate those useful functions into Google Maps.
I suggest that Google can add an additional option for parking rates just like opening hours and website that everyone can edit. It is even better that people can also choose a type of parking.
