I love taking pictures of buildings, places, streets, food just trying to find the best angle, the best light. But I didn’t always like taking pictures of places, this is my story and how contribute gave me a purpose:
Growing up as a millennial was amazing because I had many pictures and videos of myself growing up. My parents had a camera and they liked to record their trips and their kids. When I as old enough to see the pictures and videos my parents took, I remember, I hated like 60% of the pictures or video because they were of buildings or streets. Whenever I asked my parents, what was the building or street in the photo / video they would not remember. This made me think and photos of buildings and streets where just a waste of camera roll / memory.
When I grew up, I would not take pictures without people I knew on them, because I did not want to end up like my parents with tons of pictures of places they did not remember.
I even remember this one time I went to CUBA with my brother and I told him, why are you taking pictures here without you or me in them? We will not even remember them afterword, and if you want a picture of this certain place, you can just google it.
Then it hit me; I had a purpose I could use to take pictures of a place, google has many pictures, but it does not have them all, so I started taking pictures of everything. I Loved google maps contribute because it allowed me to easily add my pictures to google maps.
Now every time I want to go anywhere I google it first, I see the pictures of the place, the pictures of the dishes, and the reviews and that is how I decide to go somewhere.
So I hove sharing photos on google maps because it gives me a purpose to take pictures of places, I like finding the right angle of a picture, I also try to give google maps pictures of what I would like to find.
