I love to frequent small, local businesses and to visit all kinds of attractions. I like to share this on Google Maps because I admire the passion of entrepreneurs and I want to give Kansas City tourists and locals suggestions of what to do.
I have always loved being a native of Kansas City. I grew up in an eastern suburb, and our family went to Royals games very frequently. In high school, I worked for the Kansas City Royals. Tourists would always remark to me how beautiful our stadium was. This was when I first started seeing Kansas City through their eyes, and I realized - they’re right! The fountains at our stadium are an homage to this “City of Fountains” and really make it a beautiful statement against other ballparks. I have been to many AA, AAA, and MLB parks in North America, and I understand what people are saying. People also remarked on how “nice” everyone is in Kansas City. I was fortunate to grow up well-traveled, and as I traveled more, I started to agree. I realized that Kansas City is a destination that more people should experience.
I have been fortunate in family, friends, and finance. There is a lot to do in Kansas City that is free, but dining out and going to attractions can cost a lot over the course of a year. My family immigrated from Mexico, and there is a strong Mexican culture here In Kansas City. I can experience all kinds of fiestas throughout the year - some more commercialized (Cinco de Mayo) than others (our Independence Day). But this is not the only strong culture in Kansas City - there are many other ethnicities which enjoy significant representation and have community celebrations of their own. (I believe KC boasts the second or third largest St. Pat’s Parade in the nation!) I like that my friends and I can visit all kinds of festivals and attractions, dine out, or meet for a cocktail and have all kinds of unique experiences. Sometimes we go for the free entertainment, other times we like to splurge.
I hope that locals can check out my reviews to get ideas for “what to do tonight”, and tourists can use my reviews when they are trying to narrow down the many options of things to do when visiting the city.
This is my first post to the Local Guides Connect page, but I will definitely start to post regularly. I absolutely welcome feedback and discussion! You can also find me on Instagram as CelestesKC. All of my posts are genuine, and thus, it’s all just IMHO.

Welcome to Connect, @NexusKC and thanks for sharing why you’re a Local Guide. I have had Kansas City on my to visit list for a while and you just made it sound like I had a great Local Guide to provide me with tips, so thank you for the push to get it up on my list.
