For three years I was a host on Airbnb renting out the second bedroom of my apartment. Whenever I was asked why I do it, the motivation for me wasn’t the income, but rather getting to share my life, world, community with the visitors that stayed with me. The guests I loved the most were people most open to letting me give the local experience too. I would take them all my local haunts and really immerse my guests in the local experience of Sydney not the touristy experience. The feedback from guests was that they always loved their stay with me.
I see sharing on Google Maps like an online extension of the Airbnb hosting experience, it’s my opportunity to share the places I like to eat at, visit etc. For me what I love sharing the most are restaurants, bars, cafes, business in the local area to me - Glebe. I’ve been a Glebe local for 12 years and I know the suburb inside out. Sharing on Google Maps is my chance to help plug the business I love going to
