I’m very passionate about family history. My dad has always been an enthusiast and as I got older I realized there was a lot to be learned about my mother’s Mexican side of the family.
I searched and searched for family names but the clues were difficult.
When Google came out with the ability to make your own maps with pins - I got really excited as I was able to find the birth and death locations of my ancestors and pin them on maps. By doing this I was starting to see geographic trends of family residences and migrations.
What really became cool was when I found a graveyard of my dad’s side of the family in Kentucky. I had been there several times but had never seen it from the satelite view. So i saved the map and started using the map tools to outline the graveyard, road in and other features. Because I have these maps save d in my places I’m able to quickly share them anywhere I am with siblings and other family members. Who would have ever thought that maps could be a great family history/ancestry tool!
