I work and live in the highly populated commercial capital of Nigeria, Lagos. Lagos is a cocktail of the rough, smooth, good, bad, ugly, enticing, entertaining, energetic, bustling, noisy; never boring. Never.
I mostly love sharing photographs, reviews and ratings of interesting places I visit. The Google Maps platform makes me able to share my opinions about the spots I visit. I’m able to guide tourists and natives alike in their choices and preferences.
Why do I do it? For the love of culture and humanity. As an outgoing and fun-loving homo sapien, Google Maps affords me the opportunity to ‘work and play’ while adding value to my community. Reward for me comes when I get the monthly report from Google Maps showing analytics of my activity and the number of people I engaged by my contributions. It’s a beautiful feeling I tell you.
When my kids are of age, I will definitely induct them into the Gmaps hall of fame so they keep the flame burning always. I guess they will also pass the baton to their friends even as I currently do same. Volunteering surely gives a feeling of self-esteem and confidence. Being a local guide however gives triple doses of those great feelings.
