I am from Gomel, Belarus. I became local guide occasionally. I like to travel across our local countyside. Once I needed to remember the place on the local river Sozh. It was a nice sandy beach on the river. It was hard to get on it, because it was hiding in the forest. And I needed to cross off-road environment to get to this beach. But it was very beautiful and lonesome. No one person knew about it, except of cattleman, who brought his cows for watering place. And, of course, cows, who left some signs of their presence here J. So, I put a guide-mark on google map, because it was very conveniently for me at that time. (I had no navigation software on my smartphone). And I named this mark as “Cows beach”. That was the name we usually use for this place with one of my friend. And you know what happened after some time? This guide-mark became popular on google maps! People began to visit this beach, and even post their photos of this beach on google maps. One day my friend called me and told, that this “cows beach” is no more so lonesome! And he knew who was the author of this situation. Because only me and he called this place “cows beach”.After that case I understood all the power of sharing knowledge through google maps. And I began to share with my photos and places I visited not only in my country, but everyware I traveled. Also I am personally use google maps and opinions of other local guides to have a better understanding of new places on our planet, which I visit.
