What I love Sharing most on Google Maps and Why

To explain my love for Google Maps I think I should start at the very beginning.

Over the years I have tried many different programs and software related to Google so I can freely admit we have a long history together. I have been a computer geek since the very first time I put my hands on a laptop sometimes in the early 90s. That particular laptop resembles more one of the Encyclopedia Britannica books than anything else but hey it introduced me into the amazing world of computers. At the start of the Millennium digital photography came in and that was the end of photo albums and printing images and the mark of a new milestone in my life – getting in touch with the world.

A whole new opportunity revealed itself with the option of uploading photos to Pannoramio, Google Earth, Google+ (I was there as a beta tester and still there till the very end)

For me those were the predecessors of today’s version of Google Maps and I have been participating since then. With the continuous improvement of mobile phones and gradually introducing Wi-Fi everywhere, the world slowly came into focus. You don’t really need a computer to add your images to the map just a phone is enough!! You can do it on the go, while passing, 2 seconds and you have a new place uploaded to the map! How great is that?!

I live in a very remote area of Connemara at the moment and transport, Wi-Fi and all modern cons are still difficult to acquire for a lot of people. When I started using Google Maps 2-3 years ago most of the businesses were not mapped and there was no images available yet. I managed to upload and put up almost everything in the area I lived and where ever I went. So you can see this has always been my passion, as simple as it sounds – taking images of tourist places, buildings, businesses and adding them to the map.

Why do I do this? I think the reason is because my biggest passion in life is photography, I never go anywhere without a camera and I never stop taking photos. Being able to add them to the map so people can find them and see how beautiful the places I visit are – this is enough for me. It makes me happy that I can share something with the world, that I can help someone find their way around or influence their holiday destination by liking my images.

Being able to post to Google Maps works as stress relieve from a long they at work, it’s me having fun and feeling joy of sharing my world with everyone else.

So as you can see, my reasons are simple and I have been doing this for a long time. It’s all about joy, love, fun and commitment to improving the world and making it a better place for everyone.
