What I love sharing most on Google Maps and why?

Hi, I’m Asel (on the right). I live in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. In this picture my husband and I are wearing Kyrgyz national costumes.

I joined Google Local Guides in 2017 while working on a tourism project in regions of Kyrgyzstan. During business trips I was often searching information in Google on places to stay, dine or have coffee, that have good wifi and work longer hours etc. I found out that the specific Naryn town in Google Map either didn’t have detailed information or the information was mainly outdated.

I started editing information on Google Map: dragging pins to the accurate locations, sharing photos, writing reviews highlighting details that would be helpful to travelers like working hours, best dishes or best time to catch best dishes, whether businesses accept credit cards and have wifi, and leaving comments to owners on improvement ideas; removing old places and adding new ones etc. Sharing all of the above details have become my favorite things to post on Google Map for the following reasons:

  1. Details is something I look personally in reviews myself. It saves time when you exactly know where to go, what preferably get, how to be dressed, and what to expect;
  2. Several owners thanked me for improvement ideas, and I truly believe that they want to improve their service. Reviews help them understand what customers value and looking for;
  3. I share reviews in English with a focus to travelers and expats because I think they suffer more when information is insufficient, and I want them enjoy their stay in Kyrgyzstan!

PS: As a result of my constant trips to Naryn I made a Naryn Tourist Map that is available now at the Community Based Tourism in Naryn website and to public. This map has all useful information on sights, places to eat, shops, pharmacies, medical institutions, wifi spots, bus or taxi services etc.

Hi Asel, I’ve just bumped in your post, and as I saw the picture it reminded me of somthing. Started reading, and realized it is from Kyrghizstan - a place I visited 20+ years ago, when I was a high scool student. It was a big student camp with some American facilitators, and 4 of us from Hungary as guests. It was such an extreme and fantastic experience for me back then, that I always remember with nostalgie to that 2 weeks!

Thanks for te post and I wish you all the best!
