I remember being in New York City in a family trip with my father Luis and my younger brother Alex. We were a bit lost and starving. We wanted to try something good and not expensive in the city but we did not have any relatives or friends in town to ask for a good reference.
Suddenly, I was trying to locate the street that we were standing on google maps and an idea came to my mind: What if I type restaurants in google maps and see where can we go? So I did it and it was a blow mind for me. It was the first time I discovered this amazing new world and real references about places from local people telling you where to go. Not only it told me where to go but also the price and all the good references about this place. The restaurant is an Italian place called “Folini’s” and it is located in lower Manhattan near Columbus park. From that day on I started using google maps to discover new places with good reviews and I have got many good surprises.
After that I decided to try my luck on the food industry and stablished a little Lebanese restaurant called “Kebabji” in Mexico City. We added the restaurant to google maps and started getting reviews from customer. I then realized how helpful those reviews were and how can these reviews help not only the owners to get to know their places but also the customers that are always willing to try new dishes.
To be honest google maps was the one that took the first step, it suggested me to become a local guide and I accepted thinking in helping other people that might be in a similar situation as I were in New York.
