A local butcher has changed ownership due to retirement. The new owners have changed the name and rebranded. They contacted me because they wanted me to remove the older images from my account. These images have over 250.000 views. I presume that I will lose these point when I delete the images?
Just to clarify, these photos are not uploaded from any google storage. They have either been uploaded from my PC or directly uploaded from my phone.
Hello @nigelfreeney
Yes ! Once you delete the photo, you lose the 250,000 views as well as your 5 points for photos. That’s just normal and logical.
Cheers

I can see why you would think that. But in fact it isn’t really as logical or efficient as it first appears.
The points were earnt through people viewing my photo. If I remove the photo the people who viewed the photo don’t unsee it - they have still seen it and so logically the points should remain.
I have an idea that I have posted that Local Guides that instead of deleting them, they could move them to an archive for that listing.

Hi @nigelfreeney since the business rebranded AND has new ownership it is a new business. The new business does not reflect the old content of photos and reviews. The original Maps entry should be closed and a new one created for this new business.
You will not lose points or views, the content will simply not be visible anymore.
I notice that the owners have claimed the old entry and edited it via Google Business Profile. I suggest you send feedback in the Maps App https://support.google.com/maps/answer/3094045 to report the issue first hand.

This is a better example of a business that has out of date images
1-3 are after the rebuild and 4-7 are the old building.
It would not be appropriate to create a new listing as it is the same business in the same location.
That one is the same business @nigelfreeney I wouldn’t worry about those ones. Newer images sit at the top of the listing.
@PaulPavlinovich is spot on as always, we see it all too often where a new business is handed the old listing and then sets up something new (sometimes not even similar) and has all that history in place to make them look good from the start.
There should be some kind of mechanism whereby is a certain number of changes are made and the owner of the listing changes it’s flagged as a business that needs a completely new entry rather than every detail changing but the user submitted content left the same.
We have a fried chicken place locally that’s done this, it infuriates me

I agree, and it sounds like a great idea to put forward

However in this simple form it will miss all those restaurants who keep the brand and make no obvious changes except the important stuff like the chef and the menu and pricing.
… also what about new businesses that are outwardly the same but have a new chef and new menu?
… or businesses that just change the chef and the menu?

With the ones that just change staff, sometimes at the detriment of the service provided, you get that chronological pattern where the reviews improve (or get worse) and the images update to reflect a change in the way things are presented or portion sizes vary.
Restaurants often vary the menu season by season and of course the staff change, both front and back of house, I guess that’s one of the reasons why Google ask us to revise our reviews when we go back again (although I’d rather they let us leave a separate new one so the old information isn’t just bumped up as being posted that day).
When it’s a new owner, with a new business name, selling similar things but not quite the same but from the same place it really needs to start again as a new entity to reflect what they’re doing rather than living off the history of the previous place.
Hi @PaulPavlinovich ,
”I wouldn’t worry about those ones. Newer images sit at the top of the listing.”
I should have added that the image was for demonstration only!
