Hi @ebrahimmotamed

To better understand your issue, we may need some more information:

How was your trying to add your photo: on the next link you will see the several procedures available: Add, remove, or share photos and videos

Which version of Google Maps are you using? Is your app updated to the latest version?

Can you please tell us the operating system of your phone (e.g. Android 10, or iOS xxx)?

Can you share a larger screenshot?

Thanks

Hi @ErmesT

I see this error in past days. I’m using Google Pixel 3 on Android 11 and apps are updated.

As always i’m trying to add photos from Contribute tab on google maps (version 10.51.1).

I had the suspect, @mahdizar that you were on Android 11.

There are several issues reported about loading photos, with Google Maps on Android 11 (that’s why I still on Android 10 on my Pixel 3). The team is working, and several issues has been already fixed, but it seems some glitch still present.

I am tagging @LilyanaZ for a check and a feedback

Hi @ebrahimmotamed ,

As @ErmesT already mentioned, when changes and/or updates arises bugs may appear. Nonetheless, you can rest assured that are usually quickly fixed by an update. Please monitor for available updates while the relevant team take a look into this.

P.S.: Your post has been relabeled and now appears in the How-tos section. If you have any other questions or issues related to the Local Guides program, please make sure to post them there, as this section is specifically created for such topics. Thank you!

Hello @ebrahimmotamed

I posted a photo through Pixel 3XL after upgrading to Android 11.

The current glitch is that the program does not recognise geolocation data and prompts to select a place. Further, the suggestions are limited to local spots and an attempt to select something else results in an error.

I recollect one similar post highlighting the issue.

Nevertheless, if we remember the place correctly, then posting a photo through that POI remains possible. I could upload a photo using that route.

I just tried it on my mobile

But after selecting this error is received

Hi @ebrahimmotamed ,

Can you please share a Google Maps link of the location where you are unable to add your photo?

Thank you for tagging me @ErmesT :slightly_smiling_face:

You are welcome @LilyanaZ , BTW the issue here seems to be related to the procedure itself, not to a specific place, as already explained by @C_T

@ebrahimmotamed , if we have clearly understood, the procedure followed by you (where you have the issue) is to add photos from “contribute > add a photo” on Google Maps App

Have you tried to add a photo directly from the business listing?

Thank you for the clarification @ErmesT but more information is always welcome in order for our teams to be able to replicate the issue. :slightly_smiling_face:

No option is selected

It does not matter what place I choose

I deleted the software

There was no problem, but it remained again after updating

I even quit the beta program

I am waiting for the next update

Maybe this problem will be solved

Thanks for the video @ebrahimmotamed

Can you please, as requested by @LilyanaZ , share a link of the business where you encounter the issue?

  • Open the listing in Google Maps and click on “share place”

  • Add the link in your post

Have you tried to add a photo directly from the business listing?

I took pictures for this place

I uploaded two images for example

But the rest of the photos can no longer be uploaded

It is a photography project and they do not pay me until the photo is uploaded

@ebrahimmotamed , @LilyanaZ , I have been finally able to replicate the (non) issue, and this is exactly the reason why I was previously asking for an indication about the procedure followed for uploading your photo.

The procedure, as indicated also in the previously shared help page Add, remove, or share photos and videos : can be “Add a photo or video using Google Photos or your Gallery app”. or “Add photos from "Your contributions”. Both procedures start the same interface for sharing photos

As you can see on the screenshot below (photo not posted on Maps, but used for a test only), on the Google Photo App, when you Select a place that is not a POI, you will receive the message “Please select a place such as a restaurant of a store”.

Let me explain why this happen:

When you share a place from Google Photo, the app is suggesting a list of place based on the geolocation of the photo. BTW, the list in the app is showing not only POIs, but also geographical locations (for my own privacy, I am not sharing the list of the places shared).

However, not in all places is permitted to upload photos. According to the rules “You can’t add photos or videos to addresses”. After a lot of request from the community, finally Google Photo is checking (thanks Google for a better integrations between programs!!) if the place you select is a POI.

If you are selecting a location instead of a POI, you will receive the error message, clearly visible on the screenshot here below

Conclusion: as far as I can see this is not an error, but a great improvement to block a lot of mistakes (or intentional workaround).

The most safe way to add a photo still be the one already suggested by @C_T :

  • Select the POI in Google Maps
  • Tap on: add a photo
  • Select a photo. You can select also a photo stored on Google Photo without any problem

Note: The previous reply has been edited to add the following note: or "Add photos from "Your contributions". Both procedures start the same interface for sharing photos

This seems to finally be a good improvement for avoiding errors, because Google Photos wasn’t performing any control in the past, while right now the selection seems to be always transferred to Google Maps App.

This happens also with other program (I have tested the sharing in Crowdsource, and it works fine, starting the crowdsource upload page)

This problem was fixed in the latest update to version 10.52.2

I can confirm that uploading pics from Google Photos to a city is again indeed possible using version 10.52.2 on android!

@ErmesT and @LilyanaZ and @C_T

What is going on? Was the end of the loophole a mistake?

Morten

From your text of your post, I notice that you’re accepting pay for adding photos to Maps and are being paid to do so, and I also see that you don’t seem to be in the Street View Trusted Program? Can you please confirm?
