what does the Local Guides programme mean to me

Living in London is a very rewarding and exciting experience however it can be overwhelming and even hard sometimes specially when I first moved here from a small city in Spain and barely knew anybody.

Not long ago, before the digital era, smart phones, Google Maps,… we used to navigate and search around the city with a book of maps listing all streets to help us find our way, getting lost half of the times. Having friends with similar interests and similar budgets was very important especially when you wanted to go to a good restaurant and more importantly, one you could afford. However it was all limited to their local area or few places in the centre and a friend could know a maximum of 10-20 places and not always good.

The local guides programs has revolutionised the search and life in a city like London. Being able to share and search with lots of locals the best places for food for different budgets, drinks with a view, the amazing local market, shops that sell the best honey or chocolate produced in the city, the best hidden gardens…has changed my life and helped me to enjoy even more this amazing city.

Furthermore it made one of my passions, travelling, more accessible and rewarding. Being able to read legitimate and honest reviews and advices from locals in other cities, wanting to highlight the best of their areas is a game changing for me. I remember travelling around Poland last year and visiting this amazing restaurant only frequented by locals and where nobody spoke English. Being able to read the reviews by other Local Guides and see the pictures of the dishes helped me to order even when me and the waiter couldn’t understand each other. And believe me it was worthy!. Thank you all for being there.
