What does the Local Guides program mean to you?

The expression of what Local Guides means to me is overwhelming. You should have rather seen my excitement the first day I got an e-mail from Google Local Guides, informing me that, my reviews are making impact on the globe; your contributions reached 3,723 persons…wow! I was so flabbergasted and willing to contribute more; coupled with the motivating points that accompany each detailed review, rating and places added.

As a social entrepreneur, I felt I’ve missed a lot when I first discovered the usefulness of Google Maps. To me, it was like: “so this application has been in my mobile phone” and I never used it. As a person, opening the local guides application was like a new chapter of a book addressing one’s immediate needs, at first, I learnt:

  1. How to gain a prior knowledge about place(s) I want to visit.
  2. How to review the place(s) I’ve visited for others’ choice and planning.
  3. How to add place(s) that are not yet in Google maps.
  4. How to access the globe and make impact, and above all,
  5. How to pay attention to details.

Google local guides does not only provide prior knowledge about places, but educative; it promotes the growth of local markets and fosters direction/location of businesses close to you. The universality of Google Maps is one of the attributes I love most about Google maps. Google maps’ free nature allows us to learn and share ideas no matter where you are or your cultural background.

As much as I thank the Google team for this unique platform; I’m also using this opportunity to register my interest to participate in the forthcoming Local guides’ CONNECT LIVE 2020. Participating in this program will to a very large extent, sharpen my skills and exposure. It will help develop and equip my social entrepreneurialism. It will help me build a social and professional network. Participating in this year’s program will as well serve as both encouragement and motivation to contribute more. Am already imagining the excitement when I’ll meet the Google team following the commencement of CONNECT LIVE 2020.

I look forward to being favourably considered.

Thanks

Obi Ezekiel Ikechukwu.

Google Local Guides’ Ambassador.
