What does the Local Guides program mean to you?

Hello all,

Helping one in any way is a noble deed indeed! In that sense, I have been helping one and all who browse through Google Map for all needs.

Local Guides program, for me, is to be with my fellow beings forever, in their challenging as well as pleasant times.

As a Local Guide:

It’s hardly one year now since I have been actively contributing to Google Map.

I could see many stranded in unknown spots, looking upon Google Map as recourse.

Be it for the high demanding ‘route searching’ whilst travelling, to reach out to an address or for the pictures and videos of a location where one has not been yet. Among them some are even for that trusted opinions and suggestions of a Local Guide in the form of a detailed review before taking a decision.

In whatever way, millions of unorganized but multi-skilled Local Guides in the globe are helping the world to reach their goal in myriad signature moves.

I am…

I am a Post Graduate Diploma holder in Journalism and had been worked as a content writer for a local website for couple of years.

Local Guides program, first of all, reminds me of that job where I used to do collecting vital details, photos of all new things happened in my city, do a write-up on that for the denizens of Trivandrum. I feel I am doing the same job nowadays but with my limited technical resources and as a service.

As a responsible reviewer, I am taking utmost care to include vital but practical information and advises in my reviews.

As of now, when looking back, I see that my major share of reviews is on restaurants! Mainly on small types, unknown to many but good one in the locality. Second one in this series is on temples and picnic spots, mountain etc.

I am the Voice

I like to be the Voice of those small eateries sans much hues and gimmicks but offer hygienic, good and ethnic food.

Tight-lipped with family?

Nowadays my family too accustomed to my schedules as whenever we go for an outing or for an eat out, naturally, my focus would go to get the gist of that spot, which may be an addition to my reviews and snapshots. I was having little time then for small talks with them!?

To compete with my fellow Local Guides in a healthy way, in terms of the quality of the content, I have started to brush up on my skills in writing and photography.

I am on a mission now to learn the tricks of Rule of Thirds, the Golden Ratio, Rule of symmetry etc?.

Badge & Chortle

Of course I appreciate the badges being offered to each time based on the merit on my efforts! But beyond that, the love and appreciation in the form of each ‘like’, being hit on my contributions, invigorates me to move further on.

Corona pandemic

I cannot skip this subject now though it is not the contextual focal point!

I am writing this piece at a time when the Corona pandemic has hit my nation with a causality of total 19 deaths and 887 confirmed cases till date. I have got the latest information of another death today, last in this series of deaths but the first one in Kerala state!

But we fight back now in unison!

India has finished the third day of 21 days’ lockout! As our honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has proclaimed this lockout to pull the plug on the spreading of Covid-19 virus, the nation has accepted it wholeheartedly!

Back to my thoughts:

Mapping of an area thus has become a noble deed and that has to be continued for the posterity.

I do feel that we are NOT Local Guides but Universal Guides!

We are ubiquitous.

Even, here in Trivandrum and there in Sao Paulo! We are everywhere!

I am thankful to Google for the opportunity being given to me as a Local Guide and also for the invitation to join Connect 2020!

Thank you very much all ? ?
