The Google Local Guides Program has become such a fantastic part of my life!
Before I was a contributor, whenever I would look up places on Google Maps (restaurants, hikes, etc.) instead of going to the actual website, I would always make it a point to go through the Google reviews and photos as I wanted to see what real life people had to say instead of potential ‘fake’ reviews on the website. Reviews from others ended up what really helped ‘make or break’ my decision of if I wanted to go to that location, or somewhere else. It came in handy quite often and I began to really appreciate those others who took the time to post photos or write reviews. It was then that I decided that I wanted to become one of those people and help others! I slowly began to add a few photos and post a few reviews not knowing what would happen and was surprised to see Google emails coming in saying “Your reviews are helping!”. It was a great feeling knowing that others might be getting useful information from me!
It also surprised me just how much there is within Local Guides Program. When I started to delve into it, I was not expecting so much to be discovered! There is almost always a post written by someone about practically anything! It’s so great to see perspectives, opinions, photos and recommendations from so many others around the world.
Lastly, the Meet-Ups opportunities are fantastic and a great way to not only learn about hidden gems in your area, but also to connect with fellow locals and create new friendships! I had no idea that these meet-ups were a thing, and it’s crazy to see that Virtual Meet-Ups are an upcoming thing as well! This really helps connect everyone no matter where they are in the world.
I love being a part of the Local Guides program and look forward to being an ongoing member in this fantastic community!
