What does the Local Guides program mean to you?

Hi! My name is Josanne and I’m a Level 5 Local guide. I began using this platform a few years ago when I migrated from Trinidad and Tobago to Jamaica to study medicine.

I decided to become a local guide (before I began my Youtube channel which is about medical school) so that I can plan my commute when going just about anywhere both on my own and socially since I was a new resident to my new home.

Five years later and I still use and enjoy being a Local guide because like me, there are international visitors and locals who:

a. may be trying to enjoy the local area without a tour guide

b. are local students from other parishes here in Jamaica who do not know this part of the island

c. are new international students who recently entered the island trying to find there way around

d. are prospective international students and trying to plan their trip to Jamaica

e. are prospective international visitors to the island

f. want to enjoy local gems such as the beautiful Hope Gardens, The Hope Zoo, the rivers of Gordon Town, Blue Mountain and Hollywell, to name a few.

Personally, I enjoy the recommendations via reviews that can be made by just about anyone who is willing to spend a few minutes to share their personal experience; the good, the bad and the ugly. Furthermore as a person who has lived in three (3) different countries (Trinidad and Tobago, England and Jamaica) and being a Google map user for over 16 years it is wonderful to be part of the international community of Local Guides who assists locals and tourists alike to enjoy the great aspects of their little part of the world. This program helps us be more adventurous, helps keep us safe while traveling and opens up little gems in our communities.

Thanks for the opportunity to make our world a little bit smaller, friendlier and safer than we could have imagined in previous decades.

Josanne,

Level 5 Local Guide
