Wow! Where should I start, the local guide program really means a lot to me and it has really been a core part of my life since becoming a guide over a year ago. Being a guide allows me to be helpful, resourceful, caring and impactful to businesses and people in my country and around the globe.
As someone who travel to a lot of places whether it’s for studies, shopping, weekend trips, I know how it feels to want to get to a specific location and not knowing the direction to take and people around you not knowing either. I recall when I was much younger and it was my first time going to our country’s capital, Georgetown all alone using public transportation. I got close to the spot where I am to meet my mom and all the passage just disembarked and I did so as well thinking that my mom spot. I ended walking around for quite a while in a circle to find that café where my mom was, even got scared with the feeling of not finding my mom until finally finding her (mobile phone wasn’t a popular thing back then). I don’t ever want anyone to get lost when they have access to the Google map it must always be a go to when you’re not sure where to go. This is where me being a local guide help in always making sure google maps is accurate in as many area as possible for my country so that people can go on maps with confident knowing they are going to arrive where they need to be. This means a lot to me knowing I could help anyone who decides to use google maps.
As a local guide I enjoy being able to give my honest review and opinion to local businesses to help them make better business decision and provide the average public with insight on places they would like to visit or have visited in the past. These businesses location are sometimes incorrectly placed on the map and I’m happy that I’m able to ensure these guys get the relevant attention they need by either correcting the location or adding the business entirely to the map. I once posted a review about a well-known restaurant after dining there for my birthday and it was very good in every way for the floor I was on, but after going back there a few weeks later for just a casual dinner and sitting on a different floor with less of the upscale finery but usually well kept, I was disappoint at how the section was deteriorated and owners wasn’t noticing it. I couldn’t stand to see family or anyone dine in such a poor condition, so I took a few pictures and posted a review of my experience. This got quite a number of views which aided in the restaurant making the much needed changes to furniture so that persons could dine in the clean decorum they deserve. I was happy to hear from friends of how great the changes were to the restaurant and I was overjoyed that my role as a local guide made an impact to the lives of many who took the time out to read my review and visit the places. I’m always enthusiastic to explain to local businesses how google maps can benefit their establishment in new customers finding them as easily as possible.
I can honestly say being a part of the local guide program as really given me a different perspective on the world around me and put my attention to details to great use. I get to show the world a little something that not seen everyday, a little paradise from my eyes. I am so honored to be able to go on my phone and give direction to someone when they are not sure on where to go or simply when I want to check a place out where I want to go. Through this I get to meet a lot of new people and make alot of interesting friends. I’m always in the top 1% of the local guide in my area which is a major achievement however I would more so like have more persons there with me in which to share my experience with other upcoming guide, though there isn’t alot I have started working to make this program as popular as possible among my peers to aid them in joining. The local guide program and Google maps as really became a daily essential for me and alot of persons I have met.
