Indeed, to take a taste of the local life one should stop being a “tourist”. My friends and I enjoy traveling on our own, without trivial packed tours. Two of my passions are local transport and cafes out of touristic routes. There you can see and feel how local life is going. By now, the only difficulty was the lack of knowledge of local languages but it was not crucial.
The same here, I live always to go to a supermarket, cause seeing what people use to buy, shows more about people food habits etc. One of my favourite part as foodist!
Languages is super funny and challenging always. My favourite place is Jordan, so I started learning arabic!

Yep, local stores (supermakets, big and small shop of different kinds) are really interesting. We always try to explore them, and to buy some local food. It’s informative and much cheaper than having meals at restaurants. We do eat out but usually 1-2 times only.
Arabic seems difficult… Do you learn online? I haven’t yet visited that part of the world. Meanwhile, I started learning Italian a month before going there and it did use it during the trip. It was thrilling.
I started before one year with a teacher, stopped and now online to finish the letters and I hope to make it before quarantine ends! Italian sound is one of my favourite!
