What does the Local Guides program mean to me?

How I’ve Used The Local Guide Program As Educative Tool For My Kids:

My wife and I travel around the world with our kids for the last 4 years. During this time, it was and still very important for us to expose our kids to new cultures, people and local stories. We believe that this is a great way to educate our kids to become better people. Compassion, solidarity, humbleness and acceptance and respect of others were always big part of our goals for us and for the kids.

The Local Guide Program is a wonderful tool that helps millions of people around the world daily. It gave new ways to support local businesses and explore new adventures with people from around the world. We do value the basic element of the program which helps businesses to promote their stores and services. We found another beautiful opportunity, being part of the program:

A way to connect with locals.

When we travel, we have great feelings of responsibility and collaboration. The locals want to fulfill their dreams and inspired many of us to support their efforts. We have a strong feeling of community, even if it’s for a short time. For example, we helped locals to get to know about Google My Business or even Google Maps. They weren’t aware of the benefits. In many ways, being part of the Local Guide program allowed us to create new friendships with people and gave us great ideas as travelers and business owners.

As a nomadic family, we want to show our kids how people overcome challenges, how dreams can be fulfilled and how we should act responsibly while we explore beautiful cultures around the world.

The Local Guide program gave us the opportunity to leave reviews and support others’ efforts but also to learn about the difficulties of vendors and business owners around the world. It gave us the opportunities to listen to others and offer our help. Whether it’s a business owner who didn’t know about the importance of reviews or didn’t know that the option is available at all.

At the end, the program allowed us to create more connections.

Using this program, My wife and I had more tools and example on mutual respect with locals. We learned to take a deep breath whenever we experience a negative service (because no decent owner wants to provide bad services) and to always remember that we are all human who have dreams and passions which we want to explore and fulfill.

Today, when I visit a new business with my kids, we understand how hard it is to maintain a successful business. The people on the other side of the counter work hard to satisfy us and fulfill their dreams.
We support them in any way we can and treat them in the same way that we would like others to treat us in our business.

It’s a real privilege to be able to use the Local Guide program for education. It’s a great tool that everyone should explore as it creates real life connections and experiences.

You’re welcome @YehonatanReut . One more thing which is quite important here on the forum: if you want to make sure that another Connect user sees a reply you give, make sure to ‘tag’ them by typing the ‘@’ symbol and then select that user from the list (or start typing the name if there is no list).
