My name is Irene Akumagba. I am a Nigerian who stays in Canada, I am a Local (with 9,461 photo views and 8,943 review views and 250 Contributions on google maps).
Having lived in 6 cities across 3 continents in the last 5 years, I missed my way a lot when I moved to a new city but google maps made it so much easier to navigate my way within a city and even outside of my local city at any given time with the help of reviews and directions from other Local guides. This to me, is what the local guide program is about. It means having the opportunity to share my particular location and memory to the world from my view of as a person. It gives a chance to see the world from the thoughts and eyes of other individuals of diverse cultures.
The Local Guide program for me is helping others, getting the satisfaction that my contribution will make a difference to someone, providing reviews, to get people excited about my city, to avoid someone getting lost (If I can). I am a story teller, and the Local Guide program provides me an opportunity to tell a story about a nice memory or experience I have enjoyed at a spot (Restaurant, Mall, Event Center and even my apartment building). I post what I would like to see posted before going somewhere, and I consider it duty to my friends, family and community
