What started out as a random filling up of questions thrown at me by Google Maps on my phone, turned to be a little more than just filling up stuff after I eventually joined the Local Guides Program . To highlight what it means to me, here are my 3 main thoughts on the matter:
- IT’S EMPOWERING - being a Local Guide means people actually stop to take a look at what you have to say.
- IT’S HELPFUL - and because no one knows your hometown better than us locals, we give Google Map users relevant information that they may need.
- CONNECTS ME TO THE WORLD - sort of a combination of my two earlier points. But on top of that, being a Local Guide makes you feel that you’re a part of something bigger. That you can never be truly alone, nor should you live that way. The program aims to help others. And starting with just one review is all it takes to make a difference in someone else’s life.
This sums up my feelings about Google’s Local Guides Program.
