What does the Local Guides program mean to me?

I feel like I became a Local Guide somewhat accidentally…but let me get to that.

When I was a kid, we lived abroad and it somewhat got under my skin. Ever since then, I love travelling.

It´s roughly 5 years ago when I spontaneously joined my friend and travelled to London, to explore the city and fulfill the dream I had ever since I was little. Back then I was using Google Maps from time to time. Thanks to my friend I discovered, that Google Maps can help me more than just showing the location where I am and where I want to get. My friend thought me how amazing the Maps are, as they can also show me how to use local public transportation in a city I barely know. And how to find places to visit!

I remember my first Local Guides experience like it was yesterday. I was in an area I barely knew, and together with my friends, we were looking for a place to eat. Thanks to the restaurant contact information and reviews from other Local Guides I found in Google Maps, we had a great experience in a place we didn´t know existed! I didn´t hesitate a second to help others by adding my own review and some pictures. To spread the inspiration. :sparkles:

Ever since then, I´ve been using Google Maps and Local Guides reviews, pictures, information and posts for all my travels and to inspire others with my experience.

Thank you, all Local Guides for doing the same for me! :yellow_heart:

Hello Sharka,

Thank you so much for your sharing such experiences. I would love to visit one day banf, I seen many videos and few local guide connect photos and truly love it. I was planning to go this summer but do to work and pandemic restrictions it feels like I won’t be able to. But definitely in my bucket list.

Also, I feel like I connect with you with what you were saying. I definitely think that Google has designed and continues to work on an amazing platform that we are all as as society benefiting lots from it. But mostly, I find the fact that we can all connect as local guides has definitely been a climax here? I am sure you feel the same way.

Thank you again for your article.

Take care!
