What does the Local Guides program mean to me?

Well, it helped me quit some useless games and do something useful for others and also given some viewers for my clicks ?

I was not that serious about contributing on maps till last year. There were only a few reviews on my name and I haven’t considered doing something on maps even though I travelled frequently. On a boat trip I met a person who was an enthusiast about contributing.

After visiting a destination, he was on his phone and asked the fellow mates that “is there any local guides out here?”. I kept my silence as I know I am one and don’t know much about that. Another person intervened and told that “yes I am a local guide”, and adding to that he told he is on level 11 or 12 ?. Other person smiled, and said there is only till level 10. He was actually on level 5 and when I checked mine, I understood the fact that I am no were near them.

The former started explaining about his achievements while writing a review. He told that there will be some rewards in form of early access to Google products and even you can visit Google US, if you are a serious local guide. At that point I also thought, will give it a try.

Motivated from his words, I took it up gradually and started liking it. Started to feel the enthusiasm. Don’t know whether it was the interest for helping others, or the eagerness to earn points. Eventually it became a routine for me.

I like photography. Posting some photos of places you go, on other social media platforms on regular basis is not a sensible thing. Your followers or the same viewers only see your posted pictures. There is a difference is viewing the image for any requirement and viewing it without any interest. I felt like, If your picture helps some find what they are looking for is a greater accomplishment than just a ‘like’ or ‘love’. So it is a great feeling when you get to know that your posted photo is popular and helping others. It has been only 2 months

since I started posting regularly on maps and my interest has shifted from some time spending games to contributing something helpful to the society and to feel myself obliged.
