At first, it was about finding and sharing locations with the aid of Google map. Joining the Local Guide program was completely accidentally, and so far, it has been the best accident. And when I discovered I could make reviews and recommendations on places and businesses, as well as add up missing places on the map, in that moment, I found a new purpose.
In my local community, cost of internet service is relatively expensive, and its use still rather obscure. Also, majority of the operating businesses are SMEs, and their owners still struggle financially. Most of them do not have access to resources for any form of publicity campaign to promote their businesses.
The local guide program has provided me the opportunity to bring these businesses to the light at zero cost. It has offered me the opportunity to tell and share stories to visitors, as well as provide help to those who need it. Interestingly, I need not have any technical skill to do this.
The Local Guide program affords me a sense of belonging, contributing willing to the growth of SMEs, and my community as a whole.
