What does the Local Guides Program Mean to Me?

I grew up in western Kenya at the shores of Lake Victoria. Until I went to the university near the capital city Nairobi, I had not traveled much out of my small village. I graduated with a bachelor in Ecotourism Hospitality Management only to realize that there were not as many jobs and opportunities as I had imagined earlier on. The local guides program has been like my private practice. I have found meaning in what I studied by just sharing on the program. Much of my travel has been inspired by entirely a different industry. I volunteer with a non-profit the African Library Project, where we have started 150 small libraries in Kenya as of January 2020. Nevertheless, it is through these missions that I have captured moments and places that I have shared as a Local guide. I get a feeling of fulfillment when I look back and see how my contributions have been helpful to so many people. At level 5, I can only be grateful to Google for giving me the opportunity to put my skills into practice.
