What does the Local Guides program mean to me

I wasn’t sure on what I was doing until some months passed; google sent me a notification saying that my pictures got a lot of attention and that they where making a difference, at that point I started to notice that I was doing something that other people found useful, and I loved it.

Some time passed and while I was traveling, for work, on vacations or even inside my country, I was prompted to answer a few questions on visited places, it took one minute and apparently that was being helpful too.

I think everyone wants to make a difference, everyone wants to feel like is making a better world and that is very hard if you are just one person; I’m not saying I’m doing the best work or even doing it every day, that would be lying, but I kind of get the feeling of adding a little bit of information into a very big pile of data where the people go to see what is some place and as a human being, that feeling of sharing is important, and that feeling of helping just a little bit is what make me answer questions about places I went or upload pictures so anyone can see what I just saw, a little bit of data.

We as humans are divided by a lot of things, countries, languages, geography and much more, even thoughts; some people is ok with that and even happy about it, but I think most of the people in the world wants to be united and as far as I can think of, technology and information is really the only thing free of what some people may see as issues like skin color, poverty, nationality… it is really not important for me to go far away to other countries (I would love it) but really is something I can do from my house, my country has a lot of things that can be shared and maybe some travelers wants to see.

What does the local guides program mean to me? In just one word it would be: Sharing.

Like when you go to your neighbor with some extra food you cooked, or when you play with other kids in the block… nice, simple and powerful.
